Full Job Description:

Kline Electric is looking for a Safety Officer to be a leader and coach in the field.

Department: HR/Safety

General Function: The Safety Officer’s primary goal is to foster and promote Kline Electric’s positive safety culture in the field by recognizing exceptional safety behaviors and coaching where improvements can occur. Continued promotion of safety will occur through field audits, providing education, and other safety-related tasks.

Reporting:

Reports to: Director of HR & Safety

Direct Reports: N/A

Additional Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducting field audits and providing reports to Management
  • Reviewing temporary service electrical installations, fall protection setup, ladder use, and other critical safety tasks and providing feedback for improvements
  • Conducting safety training in accordance with governing regulations and company policies
  • Assessing field needs for PPE and safety equipment
  • Providing recommendations to correct field safety concerns
  • Inspecting field equipment for safety compliance
  • Assisting employees with JSA/JHA development
  • Ensuring and overseeing proper care for workplace incidents
  • Conducting incident investigations
  • Conducting equipment operating certifications
  • Conducting respirator fit tests
  • Assisting Management with oversite of our best-in-class safety development program
  • Tracking safety training and coordinating training with employees and Management.
  • Attending safety meetings as required

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in other aspects of the Company as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety & health or industrial hygiene preferred, but not required.

OSHA 30 in Construction must be completed at any time prior to start date.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

This is a fantastic opportunity to grow and develop under a respected safety professional with nearly 20 years in the field.

Training as an electrician or in electrical installation regulations and related safety standards and regulations strongly preferred.

Must have a valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to physically perform light work and be able to lift or exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to spend long periods of time sitting and using a computer if required.
  • Must be capable, per manufacturer instructions, of operating equipment including, but not limited to: forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • Must be able to work in temperature and weather extremes consistent with conditions in the Midwest (Iowa and Nebraska).

Equipment/Software Used to Perform Job:

Computer, telephone, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, pdf editors, safety software, HR software.

Working Conditions:

This position may have exposure to dust, noise and temperature extremes. There are possible equipment movement hazards (vehicles, forklifts, etc.). This is a fast-paced work environment.

This position will have work at heights (climbing ladders, on top of roofs, aerial lift equipment, scaffolds, etc.)

Most days will be local, but travel is required as part of the job. Typically, travel will be to branch job site areas and back to the Des Moines area by the end of the day.
